The GMT Function
The Wayfinder GMT field watch features a precise, Swiss-Made quartz GMT movement — GMT time, or any second time zone, can be easily read, using the red GMT hand and the 24-hour scale around the inside of the dial. The GMT complication was originally created for pilots who needed to track multiple time zones, but was quickly adopted by businesspeople and explorers alike.
This watch completely blew me away. With how thin, and ergonomic this case is, I'm surprised how cheap the watch was. It's so light, sometimes I forget I'm wearing a watch. The dial is absolutely beautifully done, the numbers are glossy and well laid out, with a GMT hand that completely pops and is easy to set independently. The crown has a red line around the center of it and it's painted, which I felt was a great touch. That way buyers don't have to worry about a little rubberband falling off. I purchased the "khaki" Cordura strap and I am happy with the quality of it. However it was much more green than in the pictures. And I was hoping the buckle would have been matte or brushed, with some sort of insignia. But for my full take on this great watch, please check out my YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3N0cmOgCyw
I am very happy with the watch. The look of the watch is great. I like the off white face and the shape of the hands. The leather strap is also high quality. I would expect to pay considerably more for a watch of this caliber. I will be a repeat customer of Momentum Watches. Being from Vancouver, I especially enjoy purchasing from a local company which we can be proud of.
I purchased my Wayfinder GMT in person today and it was a great experience. The staff at Momentum know their stuff and have great service. This watch is super light weight and feels great on the wrist. The detail on the face is perfect even including the seconds on the outer dial. The Lume is excellent and the hands are precise and refined. This is the third watch I have purchased from Momentum and they don’t disappoint!
The Lume Dial You Want
My overall experience with the watch and the company has been very good. I also own a lumed-dial Flatline Chrono from this company. Here are my impressions. The GOOD: The size is great for me (7-inch wrist) and the Ti case is super lightweight. I like the tool/field-watch aesthetic. Love the easy-to-read syringe handset. The numerals on the dial have a nice, raised look. The Sapphire crystal with AR coating is a must-have for me. The screw-down crown is VERY smooth and positive to operate and I like the offset. The brown leather strap is quite nice, soft, supple. The GREAT: THE LUME!! I was disappointed in my Flatline Chrono weak lumed dial, this dial is a different animal. It is bright and long-lasting. No really. If you want a real lumed dial that delivers, this is the one you want. I have many quartz watches but very few of them have the assembly quality that allows the second and minute hand to hit the markers precisely with each tick. This one does. Momentum customer service has been polite and responsive to all my questions and concerns. This is no small thing. Areas for Improvement: The lugs on this case are flatter/longer than the more curved lugs of the Flatline Chrono. Although the Flatline is physically larger, it seems to fit somewhat better. IMHO, enlarging the "12" and "6" was a design choice that doesn't add anything to the design or readability of the dial. I prefer the Flatline numbering style (no numerals in those positions). In this day where many quartz watches commonly show world time and have perpetual calendars, the GMT feature is a vintage complication from early automatic movements. While not a useless feature, especially if this is your only watch, I doubt I'll use it much. Speaking of the movement, I'm tracking its accuracy at +0.5/day or about +15 sec/month. That's standard-issue, run-of-mill quartz accuracy. Workable but nothing to be impressed with. On the handset, I prefer my seconds and minute watch hands to actually reach the marker track. Your leather straps need quick releases and your bracelets need on-the-fly, adjustable buckles. These may seem like Nik-picks, and they are, but seasoned watch enthusiasts will appreciate, and pay for, small details like this. I bought this for the lumed dial and it delivers. For the price, it represents a good value proposition for someone looking for a versatile field watch.
This is a good looking watch. I like how the 40mm dial sits on my wrist, I also have a Torpedo and a Titan lll, which are bigger. It looks quite classic as it is with the Cordura strap , but I put mine on the green Nato to make it look a little more robust. If you wanted to dress it up put on the leather strap. I like the Cordura or the NATO straps because it adds some versatility to the everyday use of the watch, then I don't worry so much if I am using it on an adventure like canoeing or paddle boarding. This will be a great watch to take on vacation and use the GMT function. Thanks again. Roger
