The GMT Function

The Wayfinder GMT field watch features a precise, Swiss-Made quartz GMT movement — GMT time, or any second time zone, can be easily read, using the red GMT hand and the 24-hour scale around the inside of the dial. The GMT complication was originally created for pilots who needed to track multiple time zones, but was quickly adopted by businesspeople and explorers alike.

you can dress it up and take to town but can get also down and dirty when required

All is good, great experience as usual with Momentum watch. Great watch, nice clean lines, easy to read. Light and easy to wear I've been wearing it regularly for the past 6 months or so. Recently returned from traveling for 2 months and it was usually my daily wear and of the course the GMT function was great to have. It was also nice not to worry about water exposure and sandy beachy areas as I was in costal/ocean areas during my travels and took ocean dips regularly. As one reviewer mentioned it would of been nice to have a 24hr marking every hour. Some of my other watches have a smaller case size but have the 24 hour marked in every hour increments. I find it wears much larger than its 40mm case size with a 22mm strap(would 20mm lugs change that?). The only thing I would find as a con so to speak, is its size. I'm a small guy with extremely small wrists, if you had a version in 38mm case 20mm strap (Atlas series size). Id buy another one in a heartbeat. For me the more classic/traditional sizes work best. All said and done, its a great watch I use it regularly and I would easily recommend it to those looking for a good quality, rugged, field type watch that you can dress it up and take it to town, but if needed it can get down and dirty. ...

Another great Momentum watch

Great watch. Well made, highly legible and very comfortable on my 7 1/4" wrist. This is my second Momentum watch. The first is my M50 that I bought in Feb. of 2011. It hasn't given me any problems since I bought it and I expect to get the same reliability from this Wayfinder.

What I Expected

I bought this watch to replace an earlier Pathfinder, which I wore for years. The Wayfinder looks larger than the Pathfinder, but when you line up the cases, the Wayfinder isn't that much larger. I think the difference is due to the smaller bezel on Wayfinder, which allows it to have a larger face, without a great increase in size. And so far, despite the slightly larger size the watch is is as comfortable to wear as the old one. The hands are much easier to see, especially the second hand, which was almost invisible on the Pathfinder. I like a simple, reliable watch, that is readable at just a glance, and the Wayfinder fulfills all these requirements. And just because I was so fond of my Pathfinder, I had Momentum repair it. So now I have two great watches.

Understated, functional, and good quality.

No complaints; it was what it was advertised to be. Happy I bought it. Leather band that I got with mine is of good quality; best leather band I own now. Band is 22mm wide; nearly 4mm thick. Strap is a perfect length for my 6 and 3/4 wrist. Can't tell if there's actually AR coating on it, but I'm told there is AR coating on the inner-side of the crystal. If it makes a different, I can't notice it compared to my other non-AR watches. Setting time and GMT/Date is intuitive. Crown screws down and does not bite the hand at all. Titanium is grade 2, so light, corrosive resistant, but might still scratch over time. There's a few light scratches on mine already, which essentially shows up as a shiny silver streak on the matte finish. The lume on the black dial variant is okay. Seems on par with my other watches, but nothing to get excited about. Dial markers are easy to read; the hands are a bit harder, but still fine. There's no dimension to the dial itself; it's pretty flat, but the black is pretty black, which helps with the contrast. I'm not opposed to the flat nature of the dial, it's functional, but it leaves me feeling a bit bored. The hands have a bit of character; a bit of glint to their border that can catch the eye, but it makes them harder to see at times, too. Not sure how I feel about them. GMT function is a nice to have, but a 24-hr GMT hand isn't something I can glance at to get the time; having to do math in my head sucks. It also has 2-hr increments, and not 1, so you also need to judge position more carefully at times. Thickness of the case is 11mm. Doesn't exactly slide under my work cuffs, but it does fit under a sweater just fine. Lug to lug I feel is ideally suited for about a 7 1/4" wrist, IMO at least. Works fine with my wrist still though. Back of the watch is pretty boring, but hey, there's room for an engraving I guess. Would have loved a mountain etched on or something personally though. Shipping from BC to ON took about two weeks, but I guess given the weather, season, and such, that's not normally expected. No sharp corners. I'll be keeping my eyes out and wallet open for a slightly more interesting version in the future; maybe a polished and slender titanium gr.5 22mm at some point.

Ideal in every setting

I own the slightly earlier version of this watch: GMT Professional. I have owned this as my primary timepiece since 1997 and worn it everywhere from the boardroom to the back country. It has done everything from sandbag dikes to help navigate international flight schedules. It is a simple, comfortable (with the leather band) and effective watch. It keeps time to the second. I have taken advantage of the in-house technical expertise of Momentum Watch to have it serviced every 2 year and it keeps time to the second. The GMT is an excellent choice as an only time piece or one of a collection. It is truly ideal in every setting.
