Under the dial is a state-of-the-art solar movement that charges in any light, allowing the Torpedo Eclipse to run for up to 6 months in pitch darkness. This provides quartz accuracy and reliability, with virtually zero maintenance, eliminating the cost and inconvenience of regular battery changes.
All Torpedo models feature high-quality, screw-down crowns that thread into the case for an extra-reliable waterproof seal, giving the Torpedo Pro Eclipse a 200M/660FT depth rating. The screw-down feature also ensures that the crown won't pop-out accidentally. The crown is off-set to the 4 o'clock position so it does not dig into the wrist, for optimum comfort.
Solid and good for every day.
I graduated to this from a Steelix, which went with me to Iceland and swam in volcanic hot springs and came out unchanged. The Torpedo is a dive watch not a field watch but it does the job of one anyway. The case is large but can be worn on a smaller wrist thanks to the curved lugs. My metric for comfort is being able to sleep with it on and I'm happy to say I didn't notice it overnight even once. NATO straps look great in a minimalist way and changing them is a breeze. Functionally it's exactly how it's labeled on the tin. If it loses even a few seconds a month I haven't noticed and the second hand is bang in the markers. My only quibble is that the lume could be stronger - something for Momentum to consider. It looks great, I don't worry about hitting it on things and it never runs out of power. What's not to love?
Very nice, rugged watch
I’ve only had it for a week or two, but I really like it so far. It is my third Momentum watch, and I find the brand offers a good practical watch for reasonable money. Based on my previous Momentum purchases, it should work out well for the long haul. It is slightly larger than the Flatline 42, and I was a little concerned it would be too big for my small to medium wrist. It is not too heavy or awkwardly big. It feels comfortable and natural on my wrist whether I’m running, hiking, or at work. It is a rugged, good looking watch, with the added utility of solar charging and sapphire glass. I already know the sapphire glass is a worthwhile upgrade over the alternative. I am pleased with my purchase.
Great watch - with two small opportunities to improve
This is my fourth Momentum watch. So obviously I am a fan. Compared to others out there, the "bang for the buck" on Momentum is awesome. I was excited by this watch. I got the black NATO band version as that configuration works best for me in the hot summer months. The build quality is very strong, the packaging was well executed, and the delivery time was actually faster than I was expecting. The "look and feel" of the watch are clean, and the overall size is big but not absurdly so. I'm an active outdoor user (skiing, mountain biking, hiking, fishing, paddling etc.) so the sapphire crystal, 200m waterproof rating, and solid build seem to fit the bill for a user profile like mine. Two things would make this watch better (IMHO). First, as noted in another review, the lume on the dial is weak. In a dark room at night it is hard to tell just what the time is. The 12/3/6/9 marks appear to be big and ought to be bright, but they are not. The others are hardly visible. So a needed enhancement is to brighten the lume factor significantly. Second, the "divers bezel" could use a tighter spring. I've found that it moves around a bit mysteriously - meaning I set it on the 12 o'clock spot, and then find that it has migrated counter clockwise on its own. All in all I am very happy with this watch and will continue to be a Momentum customer. Ted
